Torture Techniques: A Good Way to Torture?
Interestingly enough, on the Daily Show on Dec 9, there was a guest who talked about torture techniques. This kinda spawned an interesting thought in my mind, is there a good way to torture? As in, is there an ethical way to torture that does not involve excessive physical or psychological damage? Well, the idea presented was making friends with the detainees… Interesting, but in some ways flawed in my opinion. Although they were effectively hitting the reason for the (in this case “terrorist”) attacks accurately, and attempting to diffuse it form the source, a person truly unable to move beyond those base steps to attachment would find themselves unbreakable via these methods. Also, would you be able to exceed an attachment to another or organization, to the point of betraying them? What about honor? psychologically strong or perceptive? So, I feel that different approaches work in certain scenarios, but each requires a different tactic. I believe the important question not lies in how, but which.
