So, recently on the Colbert Report, he asked individuals to buy a cd for his Christmas album. This was in response to Kanye West’s album being #1 and him saying he is the voice of this generation (to take him down a peg, lol). Interestingly enough, this 3 day plea to get people to buy his album on itunes actually worked. Yes, people were either so against Kanye’s music or so brainwashed by Colbert’s persona on TV that they actually listened to him making purchasing advice… That or people just have tons of money to just throw around… X_X
It’s not so much about the cause, but rather so interesting to me that the population, only by Colbert’s message, acted. Interesting…
So I just realized, that it has been 1 year since I seriously started doing video editing!! YAY!!! I am not an expert by any means, and I had done a few pieces before then (for work mostly). However, I consider this the first full year. So I just wanted to share a little video experiment if you hadn’t seen it before. It’s actually the first video I made once I got serious… so in essence, my first video? It’s nothing fancy or too good, but I learned alot from it and won some awards for it. Cool beans! (I did color adjustments, effects, editing, rotoscoping, ect fyi; Watch the series if you don’t believe me ^_^) Now don’t go and sue me for using footage from Japanese Television broadcasts or DVD footage that someone else ripped. ^_^
While on the subject of love, I recently did a presentation on love. It was specifically on the biochemistry of love and how it applies into the psychological aspects of love. Very interesting information came up. Particularly romantic love had alot of interesting components. For example, romantic love contains many of the same brain responses and chemical makeup as OCD!! That’s right, love is a disease.
Alot of the research going on with love is centered around Helen Fischer’s research, as far as I can tell. Although alot of research has been done on animal love aside from this. Here is a cool video of her doing a talk for TED:
Interestingly enough, on the Daily Show on Dec 9, there was a guest who talked about torture techniques. This kinda spawned an interesting thought in my mind, is there a good way to torture? As in, is there an ethical way to torture that does not involve excessive physical or psychological damage? Well, the idea presented was making friends with the detainees… Interesting, but in some ways flawed in my opinion. Although they were effectively hitting the reason for the (in this case “terrorist”) attacks accurately, and attempting to diffuse it form the source, a person truly unable to move beyond those base steps to attachment would find themselves unbreakable via these methods. Also, would you be able to exceed an attachment to another or organization, to the point of betraying them? What about honor? psychologically strong or perceptive? So, I feel that different approaches work in certain scenarios, but each requires a different tactic. I believe the important question not lies in how, but which.
So I actually made some videos recently!! Just a little fun, and some commentary on trailers/movies these days. So without further adue, here is the link to the blog for the videos. Let me know if you would like to see more videos… maybe I can find the time to make more episodes!! ^_^
ok, so the commercials and publicity stunts have gotten to me. This movie sounds sick. And I want to see it. Seriously.
There are some powerful dramatic scenes, which are likely OVER dramatized for the actual scenarios that happened, but I think the whole fact that a conversation (many days between 1 press host and Nixon) just sounds sick. The potential of such an endeavor and the psychological warfare that could ensue!!! Such a thrill.
I should totally go back to school for psychology and sociology…
is a hassle… I don’t like to talk about stuff, or rather, what I do want to talk about, I prefer in person or presentation… Maybe I should be doing presentations on this stuff… with alot more research and documented quotes… and videos and pictures…
Really what I’m trying to say is, although this blog (specifically web 2.0) is a great medium to communicate on, I find archaic methods better adhere to my style of conversation… I’m too thought to thought while writing (one of my weaker skills imo). But alas, here we are, and here I’m practicing writing exactly the way I don’t want to… lol!!!
So i guess what you thinking is.. dude wtf are you doing writing on a blog cuz you don’t know how to write on the interwebs? Well, it’s cuz I have to ^_^
Let me know what you think. Specifically if I should countinue this train of a train of thoughts.
Ok, so the History Channel had this awesome summary of the 70s era. It had a plethora of topics, but the most important message was… the 70s sucked, cuz that’s why everyone was partying, lol!!! From pet rocks to discotheques, it was just chock full interesting info.
So how did disco die? (I know… it didn’t) Well, the show attributed it to the movie Saturday Night Fever. This movie destroyed disco!?!?! Well, by showing the duality of its existence… sad pandas… Poor Studio 54 owners getting busted for money hustling…
50$ for an A, per 6 weeks… that is ridiculous!!! For a 4 year high school education, this results in: 1200$ for an A in one class… So, take 6 classes, and you’ve got: 7200$!!!! That’s a shiz load o money!!! Unbelievable… Brought to you by the Colbert Report interview… Just mind boggling. I never got $$ for my grades, I was subjected to expectation… But more importantly, my cousins and such DID get money… how cruel a world T_T!!!
But in reality, this implications of a plan like this to get kids through highschool (and set up some for college) is awesome. I can believe that something like this could work, and hope the best for its testing in NY and Chicago. Let’s see some educational improvements of this day and age (even if it means “buying” education -_^)
I think the title is misleading, I guess what I should be saying is… Accents: How they make you sound more natural…
In my experiences with ESL programs, international students, and friends from other countries, I find that accents tend to create a better understand for an individual. 2 parts to this:
First, yes, an accent can make it harder to understand someone, but think about this logically. All places have accents, doesn’t matter what language. It’s just a matter of the accent. I think it is harder to be English-speaking with a foreign accent than anywhere else, largely for the intolerance of accents… sad pandas… I have not been anywhere else (key word: yet) that discriminates and tries so little to understand a person with an accent. This is especially interesting since they all have some form of accent, ie southern, NY, Chicago, FL, West coast, ect.
Also, as one of my friends teaching me how to remove my accent while speaking Japanese told me, an accent is important because it gives you personality. Yes, you are uniquely identifiable (or in many ways, collectively identifiable) by your accent.
Point is, accents are important. Next time you don’t understand someone, learn to understand them; break that shell.
